All The Information On JK Rowling and The Transphobia Controversy

Harry Potter author, JK Rowling, on June 6, tweeted a post regarding menstruation. Rowling captioned the tweet as “‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?

Several netizens started criticizing Rowling for addressing women as ‘people who menstruate.

Some users also pointed out how several transgender men experience menstruation while many transgender women don’t, and that other gender identity can too have periods.

The claim of transphobia:

Rowling’s statement hasn’t gone too well with the people as they think her comments are just not right and appropriate. The public has addressed the author as transphobic.

One user called out Rowling for her insensitive tweet.

While another wrote:

The official page of Clue, an app for tracking your menstrual cycles, also responded on the matter.

Rowling made a series of tweets to defend herself.

Users once again called out Rowling and expressed their anger at her apology tweets.

Actor Danielle Radcliffe made a statement on Trevor Project Website, a charity for LGBTQ+ youth, one that has Radcliffe on board for a very long time now.

The actor wrote, “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.”

Emma Watson took to Twitter and wrote:

Rupert Grint also released a statement saying, “I firmly stand with the trans community. Trans women are women. Trans men are men. We should all be entitled to live with love and without judgment.”
