It is a staple story within the LGBTQ+ community, and it follows the relationship of 27 years old journalist, Mitchell Crawford and Raheim Rivers, 21 years old bicycle messenger, who meet at a gay bar in the Greenwich Village during the summer of the year 1993. Rivers is also known as the Banjee Boy or B-boy, which is a term that originated in the ballroom culture to describe someone with a tougher exterior.

However, as Crawford begins to know Rivers, he discovers that although he is a loving father to his son, who is five years old, he does have a history of violence. Smollett is better known for playing the role of Jamal Lyon on Fox‘s Empire for which he also won an NAACP Image Award for best-supporting actor. Though this will be the first time Smollett is going to direct a full-length feature, he did direct the two episodes of the Empire, titled Fair Terms, and What is Done.

He was followed by controversy after he reported an alleged hate crime in the month of January of the year 2019 in Chicago, the validity of which was later questioned by the Chicago Police Department. We would also like to inform you that the legal matter even continues today, with several of the lawsuits ongoing. Smollett filed yet again last month for the charges against him to be dropped. He is represented by UTA.
