Everything about Adam McKay’s Upcoming Movie “Don’t Look Up”
After dropping some astonishing projects like Vice and The Big Short, Adam McKay is all set for his next magnum opus with Netflix “Don’t Look Up”. This new comedy feature was first announced in last November when the filmmaker made a deal at Paramount under his label Hyberobject Industries. There has also been gossip that the package has a budget in the $75 million range, however a project insider said the store wasn’t that high.
As if the project was not exciting enough, Oscar-Winning actress Jennifer Lawrence will be starring the movie as the protagonist.
StoryLine of “Don’t Look Up”
The story revolves around two low-level astronomers who discover that an asteroid having the capacity to destroy the Earth is approaching towards it. They go on board with the giant media to warn humankind about this upcoming disaster. According to the makers, production will begin in April, and the movie will be releasing later in the year.
Academy award-winning Filmmaker McKay wrote the comedy and will be producing under his Hyperobject Industries banner with Kevin Messick. McKay had been a writer at Saturday Night Live, who is typically known for phenomenal writing in Anchorman and Step Brothers.
McKay and Netflix
Recently during an interview, McKay spoke of the upcoming film, saying- “The fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way.”
Netflix’s Head of Film Scott Stuber had to say something about Adam,
“Adam has always had great timing when it comes to making smart, relevant and irreverent films that depict our culture. Even if he somehow ends up predicting planet Earth’s imminent demise, we are excited to add this to our slate before it all comes to an end.”
Adam about “JLaw”
Adam has always been a massive admirer of The Hunger Games star. Depicting his excitement in a recent interview, he stated “so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence. She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call ‘a dynamite talent.” There are also talks in the town that Mrs. America actress Cate Blanchett would be joining the cast. Although, no confirmation has been made about the rumours.
Hyperobject production has been involved in several works like, a 1980 based Los Angeles Lakers drama and a series-version of Oscar-winning film-Parasite.
McKay’s most recent film “Vice” received eight Academy Award nominations. Not to forget, his financial drama, “The Big Short” won Oscar, BAFTA and WGA for adapted screenplay.
Jennifer’s recent projects
Jennifer was last seen in a brief appearance in “X Men: Dark Phoenix ”. She lately wrapped up production on theatre director Lila Neugebauer’s untitled drama for A24. Apart from starring in the drama, she has also co-produced it along with Justine Polsky under their production banner, Excellent Cadaver, along with Scott Rudin Productions. Furthermore, she will be working with director Paolo Sorrentino in “Mob Girl”.
Lawrence awarded Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in “Silver Linings Playbook”. She was also nominated for her other films such as “Joy”, “American Hustle” and “Winter’s Bone”.
Amongst the series of unfortunate events that the globe has seen across the year, it seems that with Mckay’s impeccable writing and Lawrence’s flawless acting skills, may help us cope during these times of misery.
