Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 brings Artificial Intelligence advances. It enables more computational photography, CPU, and GPU horsepower on 5nm process technology. The platform is going to appear in smartphones during the first quarter of 2021.
Qualcomm recently launched its latest Snapdragon 888 5G platform with advances in connectivity, camera technology, and AI. Snapdragon 888 will be coming to the premium smartphones in 2021.
Ziad Ashar, the vice president of product management at Qualcomm, said the Snapdragon 888 aims to “always-on” use cases with shared memory to move the data with even better performance per watt.
The Snapdragon 888 now has a revamped architecture using 5nm process technology. Qualcomm said that its Kryo 680 processor boosts overall CPU performance by up to 25% with top frequencies of 2.84GHz.

5G and connectivity advances. The 3rd gen Snapdragon X60 5G Modem-RF System is integrated into the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. There is support for 5G sub-6 carrier aggregation and is also mmWave for speeds up to 7.5 Gbps.
Dynamic Spectrum Sharing technology will be enabling Snapdragon 888 to support all significant networks globally. Snapdragon 888 supports Global 5G multi-SIM, which allows international roaming and even two numbers on the same phone.

Snapdragon 888 also includes Qualcomm’s first Triple Image Signal Processor (ISP) to capture data from three cameras simultaneously at rates of 2.7 gigapixels/second. Snapdragon 888 also supports the fastest Wi-Fi 6 speeds and the new 6 GHz capacity with Wi-Fi 6E along with its FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity System.
AI advances due to a brand new engine and architecture. The platform has a re-designed Qualcomm AI Engine with Qualcomm Hexagon 780 processor. The AI Engine enhances gaming, photography, personal voice assistants, and connectivity.
Qualcomm’s Adreno 660 GPU also delivers 35% faster graphics rendering compared to the earlier generation.
The enhancements in the security include Trusted Execution Environment, Secure Processing Unit, and Wireless Edge.
