Created by Gene Levitt, the original Aaron Spelling-produced series ran on ABC from the year 1977 to the year 1984 and became a super hit for the network’s Saturday night prime-time block, which also included the tourist-friendly fave “The Love Boat.”

Like the cruise ship-centered one-hour show, television viewers reveled at its weekly lineup of celebrity guest stars. So now, apparently, “Fantasy Island” will be opened for business to a new generation of viewers.

According to some of the really trustable sources of ours, the contemporary reboot will be helmed by Liz Craft and Sarah Fain, the producers behind ABC’s 2019 OJ Simpson-inspired anthology drama “The Fix.”

The new series has been already described as a “ modern semi-anthology series” and will be following guests on the mysterious island as they dive into the “what if” questions, both big and small. The trade outlet reports that it’s slated for a straight-to-series full order.

The new “Fantasy Island” will be the third reboot of the original; Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Pictures delivered a good pre-pandemic horror film rendition in the month of February, and a Malcolm McDowell remake lasted one season on ABC in the year 1998.
