Anya Taylor-Joy has been cast in the lead role of Furiosa, which is the long-awaited prequel of the Mad Max: Fury Road of George Miller, which will be telling the backstory of the renegade character that is originated in the year 2015 blockbuster by Charlize Theron.
In some of the details revealed about the project, it has been mentioned that Furiosa is in advanced development stages with the Warner Bros. and will also be starring Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, with Miller directing, co-writing with Nico Lathouris and producing under the banner of Kennedy Miller Mitchell, his Australian-based company. Doug Mitchell will be returning to co-produce the movie.
Miller revealed in the month of May that the story of Furiosa was one of the many character backstories that was developed during the 15-year making of the Fury Road. He added that in fact, a second screenplay about her life had already been written even before the Fury Road began shooting. Miller said that it was purely a way of helping Charlize and explaining it to themselves.

He continued and said that for the longest time, he thought that they could just use CG de-ageing on Charlize, but he does not think that they are nearly there yet. Despite the valiant attempts on the Irishman, he thinks that there is still an uncanny valley. Miller added that everyone is on the verge of solving it, particularly the Japanese video-game designers, but he believes that there is still a pretty wide valley.
Anya Taylor-Joy is an American born Argentinian-British actress who is presently starring as a Chess genius in The Queen’s Gambit and has most recently played the role of Emma Woodhouse in the 2020 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. She also had a lead role in the 2016 horror film Split and its 2019 sequel Glass.
Chris Hemsworth will be starting the filming for the next movie in the Thor franchise in Australia in the month of March and will be starring alongside her in Furiosa, as will Abdul Mateen II, who starred as Black Manta in Aquaman and is currently shooting for the fourth Matrix film.
Miller first alluded to the prospect of an Imperator Furiosa film in the month of January of the year 2016 and revealed that she is a pretty compelling character and it would be great telling her story.
