The fourth season of Haikyuu To The Top has now concluded, but will the anime making a return to the court for season 5, and when could it make it to the screens? Haikyuu!! (commonly abbreviated to Haikyu) is arguably one of the most popular sports animes in the entire world.
The first three seasons of Haikyuu!! Series were released in the year 2014, 2015, and also the year 2016, respectively. However, the fourth season was a split-cour production, with the first set of all episodes being released in early-2020 and the second course coming to an end next week.
So, with the finale of the fourth season premiering today for free users on Crunchyroll, the fans are really desperate to know if the anime will return to the court and what date season 5 could release?
At the time of writing the article, Haikyuu has not been renewed for a fifth season of the series by Production I.G., but the anime is likely to make a return in the future.
There has been some confusion around the fifth season, which started when season 4 was split into two-course. When the second cour was premiered, many of the fans and news outlets incorrectly assumed and even reported that this was the fifth season.
However, the anime has yet to be renewed officially by either the animation studio or associated T.V. networks.
Thankfully, there is enough source material for at least one more season. The manga will be officially concluding in chapter 402, and with the fourth season only starting with chapter 207, there is still plenty of content left to adapt, probably for a sixth season.
Haikyuu Season 5, Summer Release Date Expected
Interestingly, the official English Haikyu!! The official Twitter page posted a message last week thanking their fans for their support of the series. However, the tweet did end with “Looking forward to the continuation!”
As Haikyuu has not been renewed officially for Season 5, a release date has not been revealed yet. However, we can make some predictions that will be based on the production schedule of the previous seasons.
The fourth season was announced at Jump Festa ’19 and premiered in the month of January 2020, a roughly one-year production cycle.
Assuming that the anime is going to be renewed within the next few months and there will not be another break of three years, Haikyuu season 5 could theoretically premiere as soon as autumn 2021.
Viewers on the U.S. and U.K. Netflix may have to wait a little longer to see Season 5, with seasons 3 and 4 still being released on the platform. Viewers on Netflix should not expect to see season 5 until late-2021 or even early-2022.
