HBO’s The Son: Jake Gyllenhaal Starer Limited Series Confirmed Officially!
Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming, said that Lisa and Jonah are a formidable creative force, and they are excited to collaborate with them again, alongside the brilliant Lenore, to adapt Jo Nesbo’s novel.
Denis is a master at weaving unique narratives, Jake is a gifted actor and a producer whose work often traverses the provocative and compelling terrain, and of course, he and Denis have collaborated brilliantly together in the past. We are beyond excited to witness how this powerhouse team tackles this exceptional work.
According to an individual with information on the situation, “The Son” was the first book that the Nine Stories optioned under their deal with the Bold Films in the year 2016, with Marker having brought the book to Gyllenhaal on the recommendation of Sylvie Rabineau. He then gave the book to Villeneuve, who quickly signed on to the project. Their original intention was to make it as a movie but ultimately decided to adopt it as a series instead. Marker then approached Kilter Films, who later signed on to produce.
The Son will be marking the first regular television role of the career of Gyllenhaal, though he previously made an appearance on the shows like Inside Amy Schumer and the Netflix special John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch.
He is one of the most celebrated movie actors of his generation, having earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for Brokeback Mountain.
