Hi Score Girl manga is getting a one-shot special chapter! Square Enix’s Big Gangan magazine’s October issue revealed the news last Friday. Rensuke Oshikiri will publish this special character in the magazine’s next issue on October 24. Here’s everything you need to know about this!
Hi Score Girl: All About Manga’s Spinoff!
The Square Enix’s Big Gangan magazine currently serializes Oshikiri‘s ‘Hi Score Girl DASH’ spinoff manga. However, the magazine will not feature the manga due to the new one-shot chapter. It will return to the magazine on November 25. Oshikiri launched the manga spinoff for the first time in Big Gangan in last December.
The manga revolves around a character named Koharu Hidaka. Koharu is a middle school teacher and is around 30 years old in 2007. Koharu has been single her entire life and now she is looking for companionship.
However, she is confused between choosing her career or to get married. The manga’s tagline pretty much gives its premise: “It’s okay … Even Chun-Li is still in her 30s.”
The original manga’s “90s arcade romantic comedy” story begins in 1991. This was during the heyday of the 2D fighting game boom. Haruo was in his sixth grade then and used to spend his entire day at an arcade. The arcade was located in the town’s seedy part.
Haruo was at his arcade just like any other day. He encounters Akira for the first time there. Akira is Haruo’s female classmate. She always gets very good grades and is also rich. She is a classy girl and so she looks a little out-of-place at the arcade. However, she always has been a top-class gamer.
Akira and Haruo decide to play Street Fighter II. She completely outmatches him in games every round. This unlikely encounter develops the duo’s relationship.
Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan first featured the manga in 2010. It later ended in September 2018 with the manga’s 10th and final volume published on March 25.
SNK Playmore filed a criminal complaint against Square Enix in August 2014. This halted the manga’s serialization in August 2014. The manga has featured over 100 character instances from SNK owned games. These games include The King of Fighters, Samurai Spirits (Samurai Shodown), and other fighting games.
Both the companies came to a settlement in August 2015 and dropped all the charges against each other.
Manga’s first TV anime premiered in Japan in July 2018. Netflix started airing the show in December 2018. The anime became very famous in less time.
We will bring more details very soon. Until then, stay tuned and keep reading for all the latest updates!
