Higurashi: When They Cry franchise is getting a smartphone game this summer. The game is titled Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Mei. An official website revealed the news on Friday. The game will have a whole new storyline. Ryukishi07 is credited with cooperation on the original work.

Higurashi When They Cry Smartphone Game: Plot

The story will revolve around numerous murders that coincide with an annual festival in a quiet rural village.

The game will be free for all users. It is a role-playing game and will be available for iOS and Android users. The game will include in-game purchase items.

Smileaxe is handling game development. D-techno is credited with planning. Kiichi Kanou will write the game’s script. ToHeart – Remember my memories is one of his famous work. Motoi Sakuraba is developing the game’s exciting music. Additionally, Ayane will perform the theme song “Frustration”.

A new Higurashi When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni) anime project is on its way to release this October. Originally the anime was going to release in July but the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the schedule.

It got adapted into several video anime projects, two live-action films, and also manga adaptations by several artists. The game was also adapted into a stage drama that ran last July.
