Hitomi Takano’s My Boy manga is all set to end in October. Kodansha‘s Weekly Young Magazine’s 43rd issue revealed the news on Saturday. The manga is titled ‘Watashi no Shōnen’ in Japanese.
The magazine’s 48th issue will publish the manga’s last chapter on October 26. Vertical released the manga’s English version.
Hitomi Takano’s My Boy Manga: Synopsis
The manga revolves around a character named Satoko Tawada. Satoko is a 30-year-old office worker. She works at a sporting goods company and has a very lonely life. Satoko’s former lover treated her very harshly and she doesn’t trust anyone since then. She is in need of some companionship and would love to have someone around.
One day, Satoko encounters a 12-year-old boy. She saw the boy playing soccer in a park at night. The boy is dealing with a high-handed and uninvolved family. The duo has similar problems and both are lonely. They sense that the other has something that they’re searching for.
Vertical released the manga’s latest sixth volume on July 14. Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine featured the manga’s first volume in 2015. Later, Takano moved the manga to Young Magazine in 2018. Kodansha later featured the manga’s eight-volume on June 5.
Why is it popular?
The manga ranked #2 on Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2017 list of top manga for male readers. The manga was also nominated in 2017 for the 10th Manga Taisho awards.
This manga has a very unique storyline. It represents something that people don’t usually talk about. Along with being fun, this manga also gives out an important message. Many people face loneliness but never express it.
This usually leads to depression and sometimes, suicide. This manga shows us one such story of two lonely people. These two characters find solace in someone they never thought they would. For all the manga lovers out there, this is a must-read manga.
