Marie Javins to take the new position of EiC for DC Comics
Marie Javins becomes the new Editor-In-Chief for DC Comics. Javins was an Executive Producer of Global Publishing, a Digital Strategy for DC, before promoting her to this position. She is responsible for editing some fantastic projects like Justice League, DC Super Hero Girls, and Dark Knights: Death Metal.
The pandemic has had a significant impact on the way things work with the comic industry. DC canceled on Diamond as its distributor and went ahead with a direct distribution model. It is somewhat visible that the traditional funny shop shipping and distribution model have been obsolete in these times. Hence, digital sales have reached new peaks.
What DC has to say for their new EiC?
Javins will be responsible for DC’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, Daniel Cherry III. He gave his word regarding Javins’ promotion. He said: “Marie intrinsically understands the power of comics and their unique ability to entertain and empower, which makes her a perfect choice to be DC’s next Editor-in-Chief. She’s also incredibly committed to increasing access to this amazing industry by mentoring the next generation of comic book creators and helping them find their voices.”
Javins’ take on the promotion.
“As a young girl devouring comics of Wonder Woman, Nubia, and Supergirl, I never dreamed that decades later, I’d be at the helm of the mighty DC Comics,” said Javins. “I’m incredibly honored by this responsibility, and will dedicate myself to supporting and challenging DC’s extended family of staff, talent, retailers, and partners around the world in our quest to tell innovative visual stories that both reflect and expand our world—and in some cases, our galaxy and multiverse.”
Javins’ new responsibilities
With the new job, Javins will develop and oversee the company’s annual publishing schedule to flourish the DC imprints. Apart from this, she will guide the strategy for improving DC Publishing content’s worldwide consumer reach and provide editorial and creative direction for DC imprint. Along with working for Cherry, Javins’ will work closely with Publisher and CEO Jim Lee. She’ll help define positioning, character narratives and prioritization, creative talent selection, and brand attributes of each imprint and develop publishing plans with lead editors.
