Joe Exotic series based on “Tiger King” has received a multi-platform series order at NBCUniversal Television. Kate McKinnon will lead the series about Carole Baskin and the “Tiger King” Joe Exotic. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming series.
The series is currently titled “Joe Exotic” and is now set to air on NBC, Peacock, and USA Network. Etan Frankel will be the series’ writer and executive producer. Additionally, Universal Content Productions (UCP) will produce the series.
Some of Frankel’s well-known works are “Friday Night Lights,” “Shameless,” “Animal Kingdom,” and the Epix series “Get Shorty”. He is also on-board to write an Evel Knievel limited series starring Milo Ventimiglia.
Joe Exotic: Synopsis
The series is based on the Wondery Podcast of the same name. It revolves around Carole Baskin (McKinnon), a big cat enthusiast. Carol learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit.
She sets out on a mission to stop this illegal activity and shut him down. This gives rise to a quickly escalating rivalry. Carol is out on her own and, Joe will stop at nothing to expose what he sees as her hypocrisy. The ultimate result is going to dangerous.
McKinnon is also the series’ executive producer along with the lead actress. Additionally, Frankel and Wondery’s Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy, and Aaron Hart are other executive producers.
The series will air across NBCU’s two main English language linear networks and also the recently-launched streaming service. The company is looking to adapt itself to the streaming wars.
The NBCU CEO Jeff Shell a major industry-wide decline in linear ratings. He also recently oversaw the company’s television business’ major reorganization. This recognition paved the rad for the company’s future streaming plans. Alongside this, it will de-emphasize certain cable networks’ importance in the NBCU portfolio in order to cut costs.
Netflix’s “Tiger King” Documentary
Netflix hit docuseries “Tiger King” most famously documented Exotic and Baskin’s bizarre and inhumane world. The series landed on Netflix on March 20 and rapidly became a media sensation. According to Nielsen data, the series reached 34.3 million unique viewers in its first 10 days of availability.
This is one of the two television projects which will show the “Tiger King” world. It was reported in May that CBS Television Studios and Imagine Television are developing a series about Schreibvogel. Nicolas Cage is set to play the lead role. The series will be based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad.
