Johnny Depp’s lawyers have recently told the Court of Appeal that Depp ‘did not receive a fair trial’ after losing his libel case against The Sun.
The Pirates of The Caribbean actor has formally applied to the Court of Appeal to overturn the verdict against the publisher News Group Newspapers of The Sun after suing them for a headline that labeled him a ‘wife-beater.’
Court documents filed by the Fantastic Beasts star’s team add that Justice Nicol‘s ruling was ‘manifestly unsafe’ and request a new trial.’

Depp’s team also claims Justice Nicol’ failed to undertake an, or any adequate analysis, of Ms Amber Heard’s shifting account, despite the importance of the consistency as a consideration of a witness’s testimony’.
Johnny’s barrister, whose name is David Sherborne, said that Justice Nicol ‘concluded that the appellant(Depp) was guilty of serious physical assaults without even taking account of or even acknowledging that Ms. Amber Heard had been untruthful in her evidence, without even testing her account against the documentary evidence and also the evidence of other witnesses, and without making any findings that he disbelieved those witnesses.’
He added that his uncritical acceptance of her account of events is manifestly unsafe. The 57 years old had until December 7 to appeal directly to the Court of Appeal to overturn his judgment.

Depp was earlier refused permission to appeal to Mr Justice Nicol, who had dismissed the claim of the star, stating: ‘I do not consider that the proposed grounds of appeal have a reasonable prospect of success.’
Shortly after the verdict, Johnny released a statement following the ruling, vowing to appeal. It read: ‘The surreal judgment of the court in the UK will not change my fight, and I confirm that I plan to appeal.
