How many people went to the book fair?

Over 1.75 lakh people turned up on 2nd March, one lakh visitors have turned up at the book fair at Central Park, on average.

In 2020, 24 Lakh visitors came to the book fair, however, this year the turnout was expected to cross the 20 lakh figure

Since, February 20, almost 6 lakh people have busted the 45th International Kolkata Book Fair, a senior official of the Publishers and Book Sellers Guild said.

So, if we take the average then almost 1 lakh people have visited the book fair at Central Park ground, Salt Lake. In 5days with over 1.75 lakh on 2nd March the day of Maha Shivratri, Guild President Sudangshu Sekhar Dey told PTI on Friday.

What do officials have to say about the situation?

”The pandemic deprived book lovers of attending the biggest book carnival in the world last year. This is obvious from their response this year,” he said.

Book fair is going on from 28th February will continue till March 13.

However, the organizer is telling people to wear the mask but there are still some people who are not listening to the orders, Guild secretary, Tridib Chatterjee.

”The guild is doing everything to sensitize the people about the still existing threat of the pandemic,” he said.

Veteran writer Sirshendu Mukherjee said ”I am so happy to find the same ambiance in the book fairground and meeting lots of my young fans. I don’t feel stressed in their presence. This was unthinkable even some months back when the third wave struck.” The book fair was not held in 2021 due to the covid pandemic.
