Now, if you are a fan of the franchise, we have good news for you.
Capcom announced two different games during Thursday’s Nintendo Direct Mini. They include a sequel to the beloved Monster Hunter Stories. The games are called Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and Monster Hunter Rise. So without wasting any more time, scroll down, and check out the release dates.
Release Date of Monster Hunter Stories
Both games have only been announced for the Nintendo Switch so far. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin releasing during Summer 2021, while Monster Hunter Rise will be out on March 26, 2021.
- Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin<
Like the previous Monster Hunter Stories, Wings of Ruin features a cel-shaded visual style. Rather than hunting down monsters, as in mainline games of this series, Stories casts players in the role of a Monster Rider, who can ride on a monster partner. Wings of Ruin begins with the mass disappearance of Rathalos, and it’s ultimately your goal as the descendent of the legendary rider Red to discover the cause of this.
- Monster Hunter Rise<
This looks like a more traditional take on the series with some new elements, such as the ability to ride on a dog companion, run up cliff faces, and grapple around the environment.
About Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
It is a spin-off series that originally started on the 3DS in 2016. It’s a turn-based monster-raising RPG about bonding with the creatures from Monster Hunter, known here as Monsters. Well, it’s a little closer to Pokemon than a traditional Monster Hunter game. Still, it’s a mighty complex and lovely JRPG. And the sequel looks really promising.
It follows the descendant of a legendary rider, and it picks up with an unprecedented migration of Rathalos. Joined by a Wyverian girl entrusted with a Rathalos egg, you set out to find the cause of the Rathalos disappearance and form friendships – both with Monsters and other characters – along the way.
With Rathalos, several other monsters have already been confirmed for the sequel. The originals like Anjanath and Legiana join longtime staples such as Tigrex, Velocidrome, and plenty of smaller monsters that can all be tamed.
According to sources, Wings of Ruin and Monster Hunter Rise will have some sort of crossover content. But, the details have not been out yet. More information will be shared on September 25 at the Tokyo Game Show. And, don’t worry, when it’s out, you’ll be the first one to know 😉
Also, The Monster Hunter Stories RIDE ON tie-in anime premiered in Japan in October 2016. You can stream the series with its original Japanese audio and English subtitles on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
