Naya Rivera, 33, famous for her role in “Glee,” is presumed to have drowned in the California lake while boating with her son. On Wednesday at Lake Piru in California, the actress was reported missing.
Deputy Chris Dyer said in a statement at a news conference Thursday, “We’re presuming that an accident happened and we’re presuming she drowned in the lake.”
According to Dyer, the search efforts for Rivera has now shifted to a recovery operation. Dyer said to the reporters even at around 4 p.m. local time, and the boat can’t be seen anywhere. An employee discovered the boat on the north end of Lake Piru. He further added that the 4-year-old son was on the boat, but she was nowhere to be seen.
Investigators found one life jacket on the boat while the boy wore the other. They also found Rivera’s purse as well as her identification on the boat.
Dyer said Thursday morning, the son is healthy and is with family right now.
A video out from a dock shows that Naya Rivera hires a boat along with her son, and they were the only people there when the boat was in the water, Sgt. Kevin Donoghue told reporters on Thursday.
Sgt. Kevin added, “We’ve had no indication, after talking to her son, that Ms. Rivera made it to shore. So the focus of our search efforts is in the water at this time.”
Detectives also spoke to Rivera’s son regarding the matter. the sheriff’s office said that the boat, when found, was not near the shore. Donoghue revealed that the lake has quite less visibility, and the trees and bushes surround the whole search area. That’s why diver is finding the search complex and unsafe.
“Our hearts and our prayers and thoughts go out to the Rivera family. This is a terrible tragedy for all of them, and we hope to bring closure for that family,” Donoghue said.
Donoghue also mentioned that the lake is not open now due to the ongoing operation, which involves more than a hundred people.
The family members and fellow celebrities are worried about the actress sudden disappearance. They are in the hope that it isn’t true and are constantly praying for her.
Prayers up for the lovely Naya Rivera. 🙏🙏
We starred alongside one another in her first very television series, The Royal Family, and I’ve watched her career blossom ever since. Please God, don’t cut this life short. pic.twitter.com/8fRDuuh3oK
