Did Netflix just remove all the Johnny Depp movies? Is there an outrage of fans? Here’s the truth behind it.
First, this is a bald-faced lie. Second, this ridiculous rumor spread like a wildfire due to the lack of understanding about how Netflix operates. So, let’s break this down for y’all.
How did the Story Gain Tension?
A few digital magazines and news outlets found out a few viral tweets without digging deeper into it. The viral post that most outlets seem to refer to is a Tweet with 49 retweets and a couple of hundred likes. One of the other early posts that picked up on this was a Reddit post where they discussed The Rum Diary being removed.
Fuck You @netflix you’re truly disgusting for removing all of Johnny Depp movies. Amber heard is the real monster. Men can be victims as well. By you removing his movies just shows you’re a pieced shit like Amber 🖕🏼🖕🏼#JusticeForJohhnyDepp

Here’s What’s Really Going on With Johnny Depp Movies on Netflix!
The Reddit post mentioned earlier, particularly refers to only The Rum Diary. The movie came on Netflix on the 6th of December, 2020, and dropped out exactly a year later.
The reason for this is that Netflix has the license from Universal, Paramount, Disney, and Warner Brothers for all of Johnny Depp’s movies. This means that movies ever so often comes on and off Netflix depending on which distributor is lending them out.
So, what really did happen is that since there’s a gap right now with no Depp movies people got the wrong end of the stick.

The only way for Depp to have permanent titles is to feature in a Netflix Original. Which is yet to happen.
Over the world, many Johnny Depp movies are still streaming on Netflix. In the UK for example, Dark Shadows, Donnie Brasco, Blow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, and Rango are all streaming.
Did Amber Heard’s Libel Trial Hurt His Career?
When Amber and Johnny got a divorce they both claimed in a joint statement that “There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm,”. However, Heard later was of a different opinion in accusations against her ex-husband. She claims physical abuse during their marriage and, in 2020, Depp and Heard went through lengthy court battles in which they both claim physical abuse in their marriage.

Depp’s fans believe that the claims put his career at stake. And this is the very reason that Netflix removed his most prominent movies too.
However, this isn’t the case as of now, since fans can still stream his movies elsewhere. But it’s clear that the allegations and tumultuous relationship with Heard after their divorce left fans taking sides.
