As we approach the year 2021, you may be wondering when Seinfeld will be coming to the online streaming service providing platform, Netflix. Officially that is yet to be revealed, but thanks to past licensing deals for this title, we can now guess as to when Seinfeld will be made available on Netflix to stream globally and exclusively from the next year onwards.
As you may remember, it was announced by Netflix back in the month of September of the year 2019 that it would be picking up the global rights to Seinfeld. It did compete against HBO Max, NBCU, and Hulu for the rights from the year 2021.
The series that aired on NBC from the year 1989 through 1998 has come into very high demand thanks to comedies performing incredibly well on online streaming services.
To find out exactly when Seinfeld will be on online streaming service platform, Netflix, we likely have to look at when it was very first added to Hulu, which could give us an idea of when the contract comes up for renewal.
When it was initially announced, the Seinfeld will be coming to Hulu in April 2015 but didn’t touch down on Hulu until June 26th, 2015. The deal was huge, with episodes valued at $875k per episode, with the total package being $160 million.
Netflix’s Seinfeld 2021 Release Date And Cast
While we do not know how much Netflix has paid, given the market, it is likely it eclipses that number. According to sources, Hulu wasn’t looking to revive the title given that while it performed OK, it accounted for even less than 1% of all viewing.
Given streaming licenses typically renews on some specific dates, that is likely when it will get Seinfeld streaming. That means we are currently predicting that seasons 1-8 of Seinfeld will be there from June 2021.
The only other caveat that is here is that all regions may not get Seinfeld together. For example, Amazon Prime in the UK lost Seinfeld in February 2020 and then arrived on All four a month later.
So it could be the case that we see a gradual rollout throughout the year. Netflix has acquired the global streaming rights to the series so that Netflix will carry the series in every region.
Another of the recent pickups of Netflix has been Community , but it shared the streaming rights with Hulu in that scenario. That is not confirmed to be the case, but most of the press for the deal suggests that Netflix will have it exclusively.
