One Day At A Time Cancelled (Again)

The Netflix-turned-Pop TV comedy-drama, “One Day At A Time” is canceled for the second time. Network curtailed the 4th season abruptly. All this comes after the fact that Pop TV is out of the scripted series race. Florida Girls was renewed for Season 2, but the network canceled it as well. Another victim to this was Anna Paquin’s co-production Flack, which landed on Amazon Prime. Sony Pictures Television ropes in to shop.

More about the “One Day At A Time”

“One Day At A Time” follows three generations of a Cuban-American family. A newly-single mom and military veteran (Justina Machado) journeys through the triumphs and tribulations that come with raising two strong-willed, mega-millennial children (Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz), all the while enlisting the “help” of her old-school mother (Rita Moreno) and her building manager-turned-invaluable confidante (Todd Grinnell). The series also stars Stephen Toblowsky.

The show is a reboot of the long-running Norman Lear comedy. It aired on Netflix for three seasons until they canceled it in 2019. Pop TV revived the show for the 13th episode of the fourth season, which debuted on March 24. The pandemic interrupted the show’s production after six episodes; they shot two of them without an audience. Although they made a seventh episode with an animated version, but then Pop canceled the show.

Fellow Viacom-owned network CBS aired One Day At A Time’s fourth season over three consecutive Monday nights in October. The finale aired on October 26 after which, one of the show-makers, Gloria Calderon Kellet, confirmed that the end is near. “Not gonna lie, y’all, this might be it for our little show,” she said on Twitter. “We’ve loved making this show [and] we want to celebrate it tonight!”

Last episode

On the one hand, it seems a bit of a stretch to fight for it further, while the fans are quite satisfied knowing the end. In the last episode titled “Supermoon,” Penelope and Max, Elena and Syd, and Alex and Nora were all going strong, and dad-to-be Schneider proposed a pregnant Avery. In the meantime, Lydia was in deep despair due to her loss and finally got the closure she deserved by scattering Berto’s ashes in the rooftop garden.
