One Piece Manga Tops 490 Million in Circulation Worldwide

One Piece manga has crossed 490 million copies in worldwide circulation. It includes over 400 million in Japan and 90 million in at least 57 international countries and overseas.

One piece is a Japanese manga series. Eiichiro Oda is the writer and illustrator of the manga series.  In Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine, named Weekly Shōnen Jump the manga was serialized.

The story tells the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and Straw hat pirates. Luffy is a rubber boy. Due to overeating devil fruit, his body gains the properties of rubber. He is in the search of world’s ultimate treasure known as One Piece. If he secures to get it, he will become the next King of the Pirates.

So Far…

In 2002, the manga won the 41st Japan Cartoonist Awards. It also set a world record in the Guinness book in 2015.  The Guinness record was for “the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author.”

As of April 2020, the manga had 390 million copies in circulation in Japan and 80 million international countries and territories. Oda has published the 1,000th chapter. After the compilation of the combined 5th/6th issues, the manga reached its epic point of circulation.

The manga is commemorating its 100th volume. This will be with other several projects. Some of the projects are – Kibo Discovery project, Where’s Waldo crossover. It will also include a new streaming program on the franchise‘s YouTube channel for free for a limited time.

New Projects of One Piece-

Kibo project is a project of One Piece manga. It is a collaboration between publisher Shueisha, JAXA, and the Bascule company. The motto of the project is to challenge people to spread hope throughout the world by venturing into space.

Where’s Waldo crossover,  is another project of One piece. It is a voiced comic of Oda’s one-shot manga “Monsters.”
