Paramount+ is all set to get launched in 2021. This is basically CBS All Access new and refreshed 2021 look. This new streaming service is definitely going to impact Netflix, both positively and negatively. Here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming streaming service.
Analysis has shown that Paramount+ won’t affect Netflix’s library too much. Actually, ViacomCBS has already been shifting some of its content from Netflix. This has been happening for many years and at a slow rate. So, it will just continue the trend without having a significant effect on Netflix.
Paramount+: What will Happen To CBS Content on Netflix?
There are many CBS titles on Netflix, so the question is, what will happen to them now? This also will not affect Netflix in any significant way. CBS is no longer updating their biggest shows on Netflix. Shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds are stuck in the same season for the past two years.
In October, we saw a number of CBS shows depart including Hawaii Five-0 and the old Charmed series. This was although not for Paramount+ but Peacock.
We all thought that CBS will no longer give a license to Netflix. However, the studios have two primetime shows coming to Netflix US later in 2020. CBS’s Evil season 1 and The Unicorn season 1 are all set to land on Netflix on October 1st.
CBS All Access has also been dubbed as the ‘Star Trek streaming platform’ by many. This is surely going to grow as many Star Trek titles are coming up for renewal over the next few years.
The current Star Trek franchise list airing on Netflix includes:
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Star Trek: Voyager
Star Trek: Enterprise
Will Netflix lose Paramount movies?
Right now, nothing can be said for sure regarding Paramount movies. Netflix could retain Paramount movies in the future via licensing. It can also pick up the coveted pay-1 window titles.
Eventually, we will see fewer new Paramount movies airing on Netflix. ViacomCBS might decide to pull back some it’s content for Paramount+ to drive new streamers. Given that Netflix is home to a fairly large number of series and movies, it won’t have a noticeable effect.
What will happen to the CBS titles from The CW?
There will be no changes to her at all. The CW is a joint venture between Warner Brothers and ViacomCBS.
So, conclusively, there won’t be any significant changes on Netflix. However, streamers might not see many new CBS titles on Netflix. CBS sure has many good series and streamers will miss that. Also, series like NCIS and Criminal Minds will return for more season, so let’s see what happens then.
We will bring more insights very soon. Until then, stay tuned and keep reading for all the latest updates!
