London’s people are preparing for a battle that will shortly come, but the city isn’t without its defenders. Two villains from Pennyworth’s Season 1 return in “The Burning Bridge,” John Ripper and Aleister Crowley, in unexpected new roles.
The latest episode of Pennyworth takes the fans to the frontlines of the battle between the Raven Union and the English League.
At the headquarters of the League, the Queen is consulting on the best course of action with her advisors and lieutenants. Surprisingly, John Ripper is sitting as a member of the English League at the Queen’s table.
Pennyworth Brings Back Two Season 1 Villains In Unexpected Roles
John Ripper made his debut in the Pennyworth Season 1. Also known as the Man from White Chapel, and he was the leader of a dangerous crime family that operated out of London’s East End.
Yet, while he is a sadistic killer and a cannibal, he also helped Alfred get back on his feet after his fiancée’s death.
Now, in the second season of the show, Ripper is on the side of the good guys fighting for London, which makes sense considering the city is his house and his base of operations.
Falling under the rule of Harwood and Raven Society would mean his power, and the power of his crime family, would be no more.
The other Season 1 villain to return in “The Burning Bridge” is the Satanist Aleister Crowley, and he too is in League with a surprising character.
In the first season of Pennyworth, Crowley was a dangerous man who held twisted parties. Thomas Wayne’s sister fell under his thrall, and Martha Kane got tangled up with him as well and may have met and been manipulated by the real Devil at one of Crowley’s parties.
