Power Rangers is one of the oldest and well-known American live-action superhero television series. It is based on the Japanese tokusatsu franchise ‘Super Sentai’. SCG Power Rangers and Hasbro are currently producing the series. The franchise’s first installment came out on August 28, 1993.
It started selling toys and action figures and achieved massive popularity. By 2001, the media franchise had generated over $6 billion in toy sales. Right now, the franchise is returning with a film and a TV series! Here’s everything you need to know about the reboot.
Power Rangers Reboot: When is it coming?
Hasbro, the franchise’s production company reported on Tuesday that they are planning a reboot. The franchise will now have both, film and television series. Hasbro acquired entertainment company eOne in 2019 and now, it will produce the project. eOne has replaced Paramount Pictures and has taken the lead.
Jonathan Entwistle will handle both the film and television plans. The End of the F***ing World, I’m Not Okay With These are his well-known works.
Nick Meyer, President, Film, eOne and Michael Lombardo, President, Global Television, eOne said that Jonathan has an incredible creative vision. The duo added that they have the right architect to join them. Together, they will reimagine the television and film worlds of this property.
Additionally, they said that:
“Across our slate, we are looking forward to working with the most talented storytellers as we take on Hasbro’s rich fan-favorite brands and build entertainment universes around them.”

Dean Israelite directed the reboot earlier in 2017 and it was then that Hasbro revealed a few of their plans. Hasbro said in July 2018 that they are eyeing for an unrealized follow-up to the film. Israelite’s premiered in the United States in March 2017. The film managed to bag an estimated US$84,234,169 in the United States, with a worldwide total of about US$140 million.
The franchise, in its early days, received heavy criticism as its action violence targeted child audiences. However, later the franchise became a massive hit. As of 2019, the franchise had 27 television seasons of 20 different themed series. It also had three theatrical films released in 1995, 1997, and 2017.
