Dan Harmon, the co-creator of Rick and Morty, reveals that the development is three seasons ahead, as the production team is already working on Rick & Morty Season 7. Despite having finished airing the fourth season this year, the team is already working on the seventh season.
The Adult Swim animated series premiered in the year 2013, and it has been renewed for the fifth season. A premiere date for the new season has not been announced. Luckily, those who are working on Rick & Morty have been able to continue on remotely during the coronavirus pandemic, which should help matters.
Two years elapsed between the release of the third and fourth season of the series. However, in the interim, Adult Swim ordered 70 more episodes of the show to be divided among future seasons.
This means there are still at least 60 episodes of Rick & Morty to go. That bodes well for a shorter wait between the fourth and the fifth seasons.
Rick & Morty Season 7 Is In Making, FOR REAL! Know What’s Happening
The most recent installment of the series, episode 10 of the fourth season, “Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri,” featured Space Beth, opening up more of the Rick and Beth relationship and increasing excitement for the fifth season.
During a virtual panel at the Adult Swim Festival of the year 2020, Harmon revealed the team is already working three seasons ahead in the seventh season. The major purpose of the panel was for the cast to answer fan questions and unpack the fourth season.
However, at one point, Harmon took it even further, teasing, he thinks they are working on the seventh season right now; he can not even keep track. He would not know if he was spoiling the fifth or sixth season.
Harmon has also mentioned that the viewers should expect pretty groovy things are coming regarding Beth; Space Beth was not a one-off character. While the events of the coronavirus pandemic have impacted many film and television productions since the month of March, it appears it has positively impacted the series.
Harmon said that the lockdown had helped those working on the show focus during another virtual event. It is not too surprising they are already turning their attention to the seventh season. Ofcourse, as Harmon pointed out, working so far ahead of the airing time of the show does present new challenges with spoilers.
