The captioned says: “Nothing stays buried forever… #Riverdale Season Five coming soon”, along with a string of cryptic emojis.
By evoking the discovery of Jason’s body in Sweetwater River, the poster may have given away quite something to the fans. Is it possible that a supernatural twist will bring him back from the grave?
A New Promo?
Roberto Aguirre also tweeted a promo image that teases a bloody situation involving the show’s main characters.
The promotional poster caption implies a 911 call. Aguirre-Sacasa says that the first three episodes of the season will focus on tying up loose ends from season 4.

The first five episodes in the season have the titles as follows:
- “The Preppy Murders,”
- “Purgatory,” and
- “The Homecoming.”
A series of emojis in the tweet could also provide clues about the events for eagle-eyed fans. Season 5 is set to premiere on January 20, 2021.
Season 4 had a very impulsive ending. Hence, it might be safe to assume Riverdale‘s writers already had a plan what happens next before beginning with season 5. Riverdale has a history of introducing mid-season plotlines and twists in the past, so it wouldn’t be out of the blue for the show to begin the season with a focus on the videotapes and switch gears later on.
The 911 call could be for Principal Honey, Betty and Jughead, being the responsible citizens that they are, do the right thing and call in the murder, thus implicating themselves and their friends. This wouldn’t be the first time Riverdale‘s protagonists are suspects in a case they’re trying to solve.
