SNL Premiere: Alec Baldwin, Jim Carrey Caught Eyes (And Ears) With “Presidential Debate”

SNL, Saturday Night Live, fittingly opened the show with a cold open that was appropriate for the times given that the day of the United States Presidential Elections is only a month away. The show jumped right into the political news cycle, recreating the first-ever presidential debate.

It was moderated by the one who played Chris Wallace of Fox News, Beck Bennett, Jim Carrey‘s Joe Biden, and Alec Baldwin‘s Donald Trump, captured the chaos of the debate. Carrey was interrupted multiple times by Baldwin, and there came one point where both of them decided to calm their anger with mediation tapes. Harry Styles made a surprise cameo for Carrey to help cleanse his soul.

Maya Rudolph’s Kamala Harris made an appearance near the end of the sketch to tell Donald Trump to apologize to Biden. After much of the babbling from Trump, Biden hit the pause button for a moment of peace on Trump, so that they could not to hear his voice for a single Goddamn second, let us bask in the Trump less-ness. Saturday Night Live returned to Studio 8H in the Rockefeller Center and broadcasted live in front of a smaller audience in the studio after a short hiatus due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. For all the guests, the policies of the COVID-19 are going to be enforced.

These policies include a mandatory coronavirus test, temperature checking, wearing a mask all the time, and a questionnaire related to the virus. The 46th season premiere was hosted by Chris Rock with the musical guest, Megan Thee Stallion.

In a promo before the episode of tonight, an announcement was made which said that Jim Carrey would be playing the Democratic presidential candidate and the former Vice President Joe Biden. Maya Rudolph will be returning with her impression of Sen. Kamala Harris, who is a candidate for the vice president. They all will be joining Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump impression this season.
