Suicide Squad Director’s Cut Coming Soon On HBO Max
Shortly after it was confirmed by HBO that it was shelling out exorbitant sums of cash to finish Snyder’s version of Justice League, fans of the movie quickly championed Ayer as another filmmaker should be willing to tell the story that they originally set out to shoot.
While the executives of HBO confirmed that Snyder’s take would cost somewhere north of $30 million, Ayer has gone on record by saying that his cut of Suicide Squad would be taking far less money to finish.
The director said that he watched his cut for the first time since the studio decided to slash upwards of 40 minutes from it earlier this month. Ayer tweeted that he took the hits like a good soldier when the studio cut hit the streets. It is who he is and he watched his cut for the first time since it was abandoned, and it is amazing.
He added that he felt guilt for years like he f*****. Well, no, it is fire, it is the tone of the Comicon trailer 100%.
The “good soldier” reference, of course, is coming in response to Ayer’s previous comments around the release of the movie. At the time, the filmmaker said on the blockbuster’s press tour that the theatrical release was, in fact, his version of the movie.
Ayer said in the year 2017 that this cut of the movie is his cut, there is no sort of parallel universe version of the movie, the released movie is just his cut. He added that it is one of the toughest things about shooting, writing, and directing a movie, is you end up with these orphans and you love them.
