The first season of The Alienist followed the story of Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, tracking a killer who is taking the lives of young boys. He is then joined by newspaper illustrator John Moore and an aspiring secretary, Sara Howard, who dreams of becoming the first female police detective of the city.
Now in the second season, Sara has her private detective agency and is working on a new case. She joins Dr. Kreizler and John Moore, who has now become a New York Times reporter.
Their plan is to find the kidnapped daughter of the Spanish Consular Ana Linares. The investigation takes them down to a road of murder and deceit, while reaching towards a menacing killer.
The season two will throw some light on controversial issues like corruption, income inequality, yellow press sensationalism, and the role of women in society..basically the themes that still exist today.
