The Serpent, Netflix Release Date, Cast And Plot

One of the early highlights that is coming to Netflix in the year 2021 is the British Netflix co-production titled, The Serpent. Here is what we know, including when it is likely to come to Netflix.

Announced back in the month of July of the year 2019, Netflix and the BBC would team up as they have done numerous times in a big-budget-limited series that provides a dramatization of the arrest of Charles Sobhraj in the year 1976.

Charles Sobhraj was an infamous serial killer and a fraudster of the 1970s who preyed on tourists in Southeast Asia. Tom Shankland, the director of the series, said that bringing the lost era of the hippie trail back to life has been a wild dream of him, ever since he first went traveling in Asia and heard the name of Charles Sobhraj.

Now, approaching a year and a half after the major project was announced, we have got some vital new details, including a trailer, some screenshots, and most importantly, when we will get to see it. Jenna Coleman is one of the head stars for the series.

She is known for Doctor Who as the companion in recent years, Jenna will be playing the role of Marie-Andrée Leclerc, who served as the partner of Charles in crime and accomplice. The main role itself is played by Tahar Rahim Netflix’s The Past with Ellie Bamber, The Eddy, A Prophet, Tim McInnerny, Billy Howle, and William Brand, also set to star.

The Serpent, Netflix Release Date, Cast And Plot

The Serpent is written by Toby Finlay and Richard Warlow, who worked on Ripper Street’s popular British series. Eight hour-long episodes are going to be released in total, with the BBC currently due to start airing the series from January 1, 2021.

We are expecting everywhere worldwide to get The Serpent, but when has yet to be officially announced. However, we can still make an educated guess on the schedule of its release thanks to another BBC co-production, which was released in a similar time manner before, Giri/Haji, which was sadly canceled after a single season.

The series wasn’t included in the January 2021 release schedule, so instead, we’re expecting it to hit Netflix once it’s wrapped up. Giri/Haji finished airing in December 2019 before getting added to Netflix in January 2020.

Based on this, we’re currently expecting The Serpent to hit Netflix outside the UK in either February 2021 or March 2021.
