The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang explained about the eleventh season’s new villains. The series’ tenth season went on a hiatus amid the COVID-19 pandemic. AMC aired the season’s 16th episode on Sunday night and the season finally came back. The series’ 11th and final season will land in 2021 and fans are excited about it. Here’s everything you know about the last season!
The Walking Dead: The Cliffhanger!
The Whisperer War came to an end in “A Certain Doom“. This arc started in season 9 and mostly focused on the highly-anticipated all-out battle between the Whisperers and the survivors. We also saw Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura), Princess (Paula Lázaro), and Ezekiel (Khary Payton) on a separate mission. The group is trying to find and meet Stephanie, the mysterious woman Eugene has been speaking with over Hilltop’s radio.
The group made it to the meet-up point but they were ambushed by armed soldiers in white armor. The soldiers somewhat resembled Star Wars’ Stormtroopers. This cliff-hanger episode shocked the fans. The showrunner decides to lift the fog and shed some light on these new characters.
Kang explained in an interview that these characters are related to the comics. She also said that these characters will impact the rest of season 10 and 11.
Angela Kang, while talking about the characters said:
“Well, when we saw these Stormtrooper-like characters show up in the comic book, I’m sure for some, it was like wait, who are these guys? The design is taken from a group that is prominent in the comics, and comic fans will recognize them as the entry into the story of the Commonwealth. But, for people who don’t know the comic that is following the show, I’ll just say that we’re about to get into a lot more stories with these people. I’ll also say, this deep into this new apocalypse, it should tell you right away this is like a heavily organized group, and how do you even keep white armor clean? What does that in and of itself like tell you about these people?”
Kang further clarified that these soldiers are different from the Whisperers. She said that these soldiers have semiautomatic weapons with bayonet tips.
The Original Comic Explanation!
In the original Robert Kirkman‘s comic series, these soldiers were shown as a part of the Commonwealth. Pamela Milton leads Commonwealth, a highly advanced network of communities. She is also the organization’s governor.
The soldiers then take Eugene‘s group to meet Lance. Lance interviews them and then takes them into Commonwealth. It seems like this new community will a significant role as the story advances.
The road ahead is very exciting, and fans will see what’s in store for them in 2021. We will bring more details very soon. Until then, stay tuned and keep reading for all the latest updates!
