Top Gun: Maverick: Tom Cruise Is Back!

Tom Cruise is back at his best all over again! Top Gun: Maverick is finally coming to theatres after a long wait. ‘Top Gun’ franchise’s second instalment is officially coming after more than three decades since the 1986 film premiered. Superstar Tom Cruise is returning for the sequel and he won’t be the only familiar face in the film.

Top Gun: Maverick: Release date

The first official trailer released in July 2019 followed by the second trailer in mid-December. Top Gun: Maverick is all set to hit the theatres on December 23, 2020.

Originally the movie was going to release in July 2019. But Paramount Pictures pushed back the premiere by almost a year. Later on, June 24 was marked as the release date. But that also went into vain by the ongoing pandemic.

Paramount released a new, pulse-pounding TV spot during Super Bowl LIV. The high-octane, stressful trailer teases Maverick’s fate as a voice-over explains that he is potentially facing court-martial and a dishonorable discharge. This is interspersed with Maverick’s heavy breathing as he pilots a fighter jet at death-defying speeds.

Paramount Pictures has not ended their silence regarding the plot of the sequel. But the story is more likely going to revolve around the relationship between human pilots and unmanned drones in the modern military. Tom Cruise’s pilot character Top Gun: Maverick is going to be the centre of the story. Additionally, he will be likely fighting to affirm the value of human pilots.

Joseph Kosinski is the movie’s director. He staged some of the fighter pilot footage and how physically gruelling the work was for the actors. Many cast members including Tom Cruise looked deeply uncomfortable or even ready to vomit in the footage.

The production team installed six IMAX-quality cameras in the cockpit to gather the best footage of the scenes. The cast went through flight training with the U.S. Navy. With Tom Cruise’s notorious image, the entire cast was expected to learn to fly, no matter how hard the struggle.
